Program Notes:

Summer 2022 was the first time that I had ventured back to Tacoma since I was 6 months old. I was actually visiting Seattle at the time, and misplanned and wore myself out a little too much. Several emotions were floating through my head, with exhaustion also creeping in. Anxiety, worry, and loneliness plagued the beginning of my drive, but once I was on the bridge to Tacoma, excitement, joy, and determination quickly took over. I was too tired to explore the city to its fullest, so I decided go to a park and the beach.Once I made it to Owen's Beach, I gave a sigh of relief and started contemplating on how far I had come. I started to cry, which while I found therapeutic, some of the other patrons, like the children playing hide and go seek, probably thought it was a bit odd! I gathered myself an left to explore the rest of the beach with a new since of triumph.

This piece reflects those emotions I experienced. While there are clearly distinct sections, I decided that I did not want to make individual movements as there was never a single emotion that I experienced at a time, but more of a mixture. I look forward to one day visiting Tacoma again and experiencing everything to the fullest!
