Bassoon and Contrabassoon

When Brandon and Ashley first messaged me with the idea of a commission for bassoon and contrabassoon, I was immediately excited and has so many ideas flow through my head. Both of them performed in a prior woodwind choir piece of mine. I fell in love with the low rumbling timbre of the contra and the soaring majestic upper register of the bassoon. In this piece, I wanted to play into both of these aspects of the instruments. This piece symbolizes the tectonic plates behind the surface sliding past one another and eventually the violent shakes that result.
